ABOUT
Opportunity Council’s 60th Anniversary Gala
For sixty years, neighbors have stepped up for neighbors through Opportunity Council. From the early days of Head Start to today’s efforts to create affordable housing, keep the lights on, and ensure families have what they need to thrive—our story is one of people helping people.
This fall, we’re celebrating that history and the thousands of hands and hearts that have shaped it. Join us for an evening that honors six decades of community action and looks ahead to the next chapter.
Together, we’ll gather at the Hotel Bellwether Ballroom for dinner, music, and celebration. More than a party, the gala is a chance to carry forward a legacy: making sure help shows up when and where it’s needed most.

Why It Matters
The work of helping people and building community is never simple. Every day brings new challenges, and lately, it can feel like the world is heavier than ever.
That’s exactly why it matters to pause and celebrate. For 60 years, Opportunity Council has shown what’s possible when neighbors come together—families find stability, homes are created, and brighter futures take root.
This gala is about making space for joy in the midst of the hard stuff—honoring all that’s been accomplished and carrying forward the hope and resilience that will guide the next 60 years.
FAQ
What is the Opportunity Council’s 60th Anniversary Gala?
It’s a one-night celebration of 60 years of community action in Whatcom County and beyond. Guests will enjoy dinner, music, and a look back at how far we’ve come—and where we’re going.
Is this a fundraiser?
This event is primarily a celebration of Opportunity Council’s 60th anniversary. There will be a chance to give during the program if you’re moved to do so, but the focus is on gathering as a community, honoring our shared history, and enjoying a memorable night together.
What should I wear?
Think “festive formal.” We’ll be dressed to the nines in our finest cocktail and semi-formal garb, so please don’t hesitate to bust out your sequins. But of course, no one’s turned away for insufficient sparkle.
Will there be dinner?
Yes. A plated dinner is included with your ticket, with vegetarian and gluten-free options available.
Is parking available?
Complimentary parking is available at the Hotel Bellwether. Carpooling and ride-sharing are encouraged. We’ll have a pdf map to link to here.
Can I sit with my friends?
Yes! Purchasing a table ensures your group is seated together. If you’re buying individual tickets, you can make a seating request when you register, and we’ll do our best to accommodate.
I can’t attend. Can I still help?
Absolutely. You can make a gift in honor of the 60th anniversary or sponsor a ticket for a community member. Every contribution helps neighbors in need.
Will there be an auction?
No. This evening is all about connection, celebration, and supporting OC’s mission. We’ll have fun ways to give, but no auction paddles required.
