WHATCOM AND ISLAND COUNTY, Wash. — The Opportunity Council is hosting School Backpack Drives this summer to help children who are homeless or in very low-income families.
On Saturday, July 21, the North Whidbey Lions Club collected backpack and school supply donations in front of WalMart from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
On Wednesday, Aug. 22, staff and volunteers will be accepting donations at Carl Cozier elementary school, 1330 Lincoln St, Bellingham from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Businesses, organizations and individuals are invited to contribute backpacks and financial donations to help children start school prepared and excited to learn.
Backpacks help ensure students are fully equipped for the coming school year. Financial donations are used to purchase additional backpacks as needed and also help pay for school fees, transportation costs, extracurricular activities, and other educational support for families with school-aged children.
People who miss one of the donation drive dates can make a financial gift to the Opportunity Council, PO Box 2134, Bellingham, WA 98227-2134 for Whatcom County students and Opportunity Council, PO Box 922, Oak Harbor, WA 98277 for Island County.
