At Opportunity Council, we believe the challenges facing our communities are big, but the power we have together is bigger. Interns play a powerful role in our work while gaining a broad overview of anti-poverty work and specific insight into select Opportunity Council programs.

Available Internships

Act as a Housing Advocate for unsheltered and/or lowincome households, connect household members with local resources and work one-on-one with clients to develop a Housing Action Plan. We are looking for someone who is able to engage with a diverse client base and be self-starter with an interest in learning about various housing programs in the community.

SUMMARY OF INTERN DUTIES:

  • Act as a Housing Advocate for unsheltered and/or low income households
  • Ability to connect household members with local resources
  • Attend Housing Lab sessions
  • Help maintain client participation database
  • Work one-on-one with clients to develop a Housing Action Plan
  • Develop familiarity with RCWs relative to landlord/tenant law and Fair Housing
  • Communicate with and respond promptly to partner landlord’s needs

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Willingness to answer and make calls to tenants and landlords who have rental questions.
  • Ability to engage with a diverse client base
  • A self-starter with an interest in learning about various housing programs in the community
  • A creative problem solver who is looking for solutions that are unconventional
  • Ability to perform web and database research and apply that knowledge to the work you do
  • Organized and detail oriented

Provide vital program support and work directly with clients who are experiencing (or at risk of experiencing) homelessness to support them in their search for safe and stable housing. 

SUMMARY OF INTERN DUTIES:

  • Contact clients by phone and mail to check-in on housing status.
  • Meet with clients in the office to work on their housing search, prepare for housing program openings, and provide resources.  
  • Shadow home and office visits, as well as community outreach.
  • Assist with data entry, copying, filing, special projects, research and other program support.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Good communication, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills 
  • Able to work independently
  • Demonstrate an interest in working with a low-income population and within a community action agency
  • Be enrolled in a Human Services or related field
