Golfers win and Kids Win at Annual Fundraising Tournament

“Golf FORE Good” raises $20,000 to help local disadvantaged children

WHATCOM, WA: Over 100 golfers competed in the Opportunity Council’s “Golf FORE Good” Tournament Friday, Aug. 5, at Shuksan Golf Course. These teams, together with business sponsors and donors, raised nearly $20,000 (net) to help local children.

The first place winning team members in the scramble-format tournament were Steve Swank, Steve Eggert, Gary Bring and Dean Carpenter with 20 under par.

The second place team members ware Mark Croff, Sheldon Smith, John Flannagan and John Delaney with 16 under par. The third place team members were Sheldon Satterthwaite, Neil Robinson, Russ Wildenburg and Jim Warrick with 15 under par.

In the women’s division, the winning team members were Kerri Larrabee, Bonnie Frank, Kristin Fuchs and Wanda Collins with 7 under par.

On the men’s side, the winner of longest drive was Ben Burton and the winner of closest to pin was Steve Swank. For the women, the winner of longest drive was Tricia Callahan and the winner of closest to pin was Elaine Maki.

Proceeds from the “Golf FORE Good” tournament support Opportunity Council’s early learning and child care programs for children who have disabilities or who are disadvantaged, homeless or in very low-income families.

“The ‘Golf FORE Good’ tournament is one of my favorite events of the year.  It is a fun, well-run event that helps support important services in our community.  We’re proud to sponsor this event,” said Sheldon Satterthwaite, HUB NW.

Tournament presenting sponsors included Peoples Bank, Philadelphia Insurance Company, HUB NW/The Unity Group. Major sponsors include Phillips 66 Ferndale Refinery, Boundary Bay Brewery, Kelly’s O’Deli, Inc. Overhead Door Company, Robinson Hardwood & Homes, Piper and Piper, Superfeet, IMCO General Construction, Lithtex, Aetna, Liberty Mutual Group Inc. and North Coast Credit Union.

Additional businesses sponsored holes or provided raffle donations to help make the tournament a success. Over 60 door prizes were given out to golfers in addition to raffle prizes, which included weekend trips to Arizona, Nevada, and Lopez Island.
